Hi all!

Sorry for the severe lack of posts lately. I've been cranking away at my MFA thesis film (to be

completed this spring!) and that's been taking up most of my time. To hold you over, here are some early concept sketches of my characters. They have changed quite a bit, but you wouldn't want me to spoil things, would you? :)

Also, just resolved some crazy mixups with my email and the new blogger stuff... had to change things up because I made this blog so long ago (5 years?!). So sorry if anything is messed up... I'll try to fix it! :)

I had a chance to play with the Cannon 5D mach II from the school this past weekend. Everything looks so pretty with that camera!! A bit heavy to be using w/o a tripod tho...

This is a shot of Gramercy Park, a few blocks away from where I'm living in NYC. This has also inspired me to try to start a tmblr. I just moved to NYC! AH! I will be pursuing my masters in Computer Art (comp animation) at the School of Visual Arts. This past week I have been going to museums, walking around parks, and just trying to take in all that is going on around me... a lot of inspiration. There are tons of people sketches I want to scan in, but for now a photograph of the view out my 17th floor window looking west. There were some interesting clouds from Earl today. :) I also made it a calendar desktop b/c I always like having a calendar to look at. tee hee!

Here is a still from an animation I threw together for a biology project. It's something a little different from me, but I had fun with it! Ed is a guy with a lot of allergies, so he is treated with allergy drops or Sublingual Immunotherapy. Yay Ed!

This week I had the pleasure of hearing the creator of Doug, Jim Jinkins, speak at OSU. It was a great presentation and I was glad I had the chance to go!

After the presentation, we had the opportunity to meet Jim and exchange a few short words. I shook his hand and introduced myself (as calmly as I could!). While he was signing my very own Doug poster I told him that I too was an animator and was making a film about a duck who skates on butter. After mentioning the skating on butter part, without missing a beat, Jim replied "Of course he does!" in a very genuine and understanding tone. I was/still am so ecstatic about this! It was the first time I mentioned my thesis premise to someone and they didn't look at me like I was crazy! Yay Jim Jinkins!! :)

I have an awesome computer animation 4 class. Last week we some how got to discussing what our stripper names would be (first pet's name + the street you grew up on). Then, our professor made it an assignment to illustrate our stripper! Haha!
I usually don't draw sexy ladies (drawing old men seems to be my thing :P) but this was a lot of fun! Enjoy!

Break has been pretty good. Traveled a little to very snowy places, lots of family time, and good food. I've also had time to do some art on my own, which is always a good thing. Here is some stuff from this past semester. I'll post some stuff from my new project soon. Until then, stay warm!
Character design, wise magnet: he got in a fight with Wooley Willy and won. :)

This is Trevor from character design, he gets scared and jumps up onto lamps. I'm not fond of this particular lamp, it dominates Trev. I'll fix it one of these days. Here is a study I did prior to the character:

Good ole' Gladys here is my inspiration for my new project, you'll see. This is her through the ages.
This is Lake. He was my 3d animation II final (part of it). The geometry on his leg went crazy on me during the skinning process, so I covered it up with an invisible texture and a cast because of time restraints. I had classmates and some of my professors sign the cast for kicks and giggles.

*Edit* I added this one for Tom, another piece from character design, if Lucy Liu was an animal. :)

Dog Sly

So this little guy is Dog Sly. He is a spy dog who pretends to be old to fool his enemies. His "cane" doubles as a cliff hanger, cool stuff eh?? He also love to balance on weird assortments of objects to get where he needs to be. Here are a couple ink scribbles and ideas from my moleskin.

So, in order to kick myself in the butt I decided I needed to draw a lot. I began to study from the pros whenever I could. No creating characters, just strictly bettering myself by learning from others. I drew a lot from "The Illusion of Life" (amazing book) and I also discovered the character design blog, which is a GOLD MINE! This definitely got me going again and I am feeling much better about my drawings these days. Have a gander...

So, it has been a busy, hectic, and crazy summer for me. I was in a slump for a while after school wasn't drawing too much. so bear= Jen (the can is most likely orange soda because it is amazing.)

I've been working a lot at MultiMedia Farms as their intern/ graphic artist. They are a video production agency in Canfield (my hometown). It has been really nice being able to stay home for at least one more summer. It has been a great experience and I am really getting the feel for a real world job.

I have gotten to do a lot of really fun projects such as TV commercials, logo design, orientation videos, and informational videos for various companies and I even got to do a gig in New Jersey! Yay!

This is my first cleaned up run through animation of this interesting duo. This is just a sample of the tension that will occur through out my piece. I feel pretty good about the animation here, which is a good thing being that this is the main focus of my piece. More are to come, I ran out of time, after trying to put the bg into this one took a while (and it still didn't work...) I hope you like what I have so far! Your feed back is more than welcomed!
